Gin rummy has been a beloved game in American culture since the 1930s, embraced by Broadway and Hollywood stars and featured in numerous movies.

The objective of gin rummy is to create sets of cards that "go together" called melds. Melds can either consist of cards of the same rank, like all sevens, or form a sequence of cards of the same suit, such as 7, 8, 9 of hearts. Any cards remaining in a player's hand that do not form melds are considered deadwood and incur penalties based on their value. Throughout the game, players strategically discard unwanted cards and collect cards that will help them form melds.

In Gin Rummy GC Online, each hand begins with two players receiving 10 cards each. The 21st card is placed face up next to the deck, known as the upcard. Players take turns drawing a card either from the closed deck or from the upcard. When a player chooses to discard a card, it is placed on top of the current upcard, effectively becoming the new upcard.

At the start of a gin rummy game, one player has the option to exchange a card from their hand with the upcard or pass this opportunity. Until both players either pass or exchange the first upcard, drawing from the closed deck is not allowed.

If both players pass on the first upcard, the non-dealer must begin the game by drawing the top card from the closed deck and discard a card on top of the original upcard to form the discard pile. Afterward, each player takes turns drawing either the unknown top card from the closed deck or the known upcard from the waste pile. They then complete their turn by discarding one card face up to the discard pile. It is not permitted to draw the upcard and discard it on the same turn.

Melds can consist of either 3 or 4 cards of the same rank or a sequence of 3 or more cards in the same suit (excluding non-consecutive cards like Ace and King, but including Ace and 2).

A hand in which all cards form melds without any deadwood is called Gin and carries a bonus. However, players do not have to wait for gin and can end a game as soon as the total value of their unmatched deadwood is 10 or less (known as maximum knocking value). To end a hand, players can theoretically "knock" on the table after drawing an 11th card and before discarding their last card using the knock button. The final discarded card is placed face up on the closed stock, ensuring gameplay integrity.
